Watch: Marlins SS has day to remember with first home run, cycle

The Miami Marlins may have lost, 6-2, to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon, but shortstop Xavier Edwards had perhaps the best day of his pro baseball career yet.

He not only hit his first career home run to lead off the game (on the first pitch, no less), but he also went 4-for-4 at the plate and hit for the second cycle in Marlins history.

Here is a look at his home run to open the game and start him on his path toward the cycle.

After walking in the top of the third inning, Edwards doubled in the fifth, tripled in the seventh and singled in the top of the ninth inning.

That makes five plate appearances, five times on base, a first big league home run and a cycle. That is about as productive of a day as a major league hitter can have. The only thing he was missing was a win.

Edwards has appeared in 25 games for the Marlins this season and is now hitting .379 with a .956 OPS in those games. He has been one of the few bright spots for a team that is currently in seller mode ahead of the trade deadline.
