Jerry Jones offers absurd comment on contract talks with CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys' contract talks with superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb seem to be going very poorly.

At least based on what we saw on social media on Thursday night.

In response to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saying he has "no urgency" to get a contract done with Lamb, the wide receiver simply replied on social media site X with an "lol" comment.

"I don't expect not to have CeeDee Lamb," Jones continued, per ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry and Sarah Barshop. "... I don't know why I said it. ... I don't have a sense of urgency about getting it done. Put any reason you want. I was at Nobu two days ago. Give that as the reason. Whatever you want to put out there."

None of that seems ideal for the Cowboys or their fans, especially as the start of the regular season is now just one month away.

Lamb is in the final year of his rookie contract and is looking to become one of the NFL's highest-paid wide receivers, especially after leading the league with 135 catches a year ago. He has developed into one of the most impactful offensive players in the league and is a key part of the Cowboys offense.

But he is holding out — and racking up fine amounts — as he awaits a new deal from the team.

The only problem is the guy who signs the checks and makes the final decisions — Jones — does not seem very motivated to get something done. That it is the main takeaway here, and it continues what has been a very bizarre offseason from the Cowboys. They did not make many significant changes to the roster, despite Jones saying he was "all-in" on building a Super Bowl winning team in Dallas, and now they are playing hardball with one of their most important players.

Along with Lamb's contract, the Cowboys are also nearing a point where they are going to have to work out a new contract with starting quarterback Dak Prescott as he is also set to enter the final year of his contract.

This offseason and preseason has been a lucrative one for wide receivers as several of the league's top players at the position have cashed in with new deals, including Tyreek Hill (Miami), Jaylen Waddle (Miami), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota), Jerry Jeudy (Cleveland), A.J. Brown (Philadelphia), DeVonta Smith (Philadelphia), Nico Collins (Houston), Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit), D.J. Moore (Chicago), Michael Pittman (Indianapolis) and Mike Evans (Tampa Bay).

Lamb is hoping to join that group soon. It's inevitable that he will, but it's very clear that it's going to happen on Jones' timeline and nobody else's.
