Napheesa Collier recorded 27 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots and the Minnesota Lynx clinched a spot in the WNBA Finals with a solid 88-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night at Minneapolis.
Courtney Williams added 24 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the second-seeded Lynx, who led for most of the victory that wrapped up a best-of-five series. Kayla McBride had 19 points for Minnesota.
DiJonai Carrington scored all 17 of her points in the second half and grabbed 12 rebounds for the third-seeded Sun. Brionna Jones added 16 points and 10 rebounds, DeWanna Bonner had 14 points and eight boards and Tyasha Harris scored 12 points for Connecticut.
Minnesota will visit the top-seeded New York Liberty in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Thursday.
Collier, the runner-up for regular-season MVP honors, is the first player in WNBA history to have at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in three straight playoff games.
Minnesota shot 49.3 percent from the field, including a 10-of-26 showing from 3-point range.
The Sun connected on 38.5 percent of their shots overall and were 8-for-23 from behind the arc.
Connecticut made a late charge on two 3-pointers by Bonner to cut its deficit to 78-65 with 3:40 remaining. McBride responded with a key trey one minute later to help hold off the comeback bid.
Connecticut trailed by 21 late in the first half before scoring the final two points of the second quarter and the first seven of the third to move within 53-41 with 7:37 left.
Minnesota answered with a 12-0 burst. Alanna Smith connected on a 3-pointer and Williams followed with a runner. Collier then scored seven straight points on two conventional baskets and a trey to push the lead to 65-41 with 2:21 left in the third quarter.
The Sun scored the next seven points to trail 65-48 entering the final stanza.
Collier's three-point play pushed the Lynx lead back to 20 with 8:13 left in the contest.
Williams scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, McBride added 14 points and Collier had 13 points and seven rebounds as Minnesota held a 53-34 halftime lead.
McBride drained two treys in 24 seconds to cap a 23-7 run and give the Lynx an 11-point lead with 2:42 left in the first quarter. Minnesota took a 31-18 advantage into the second.

Odyssey Sims’ Old Remarks About Caitlin Clark Resurface After Signing with Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever are coming off a dominant 92-70 victory over the Chicago Sky on Saturday night to improve to 18-14 overall and win six of their last eight games— all without star point guard Caitlin Clark. However, the team was even more shorthanded against the Sky after guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald suffered season-ending injuries in Thursday’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury. That setback prompted the Fever to act quickly, signing 11-year veteran and 2019 All-Star Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract on Sunday. Sims last played for the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this year, starting 11 games and averaging 9.8 points and 3.5 assists per game. Odyssey Sims Speaks on Caitlin Clark Back in 2024 Following the signing, a video resurfaced on social media of Sims discussing her new teammate Caitlin Clark during her time last season with the Dallas Wings. “Everybody's been watching Caitlin, she's a great player," Sims said in June of last year. "She's playing at a very high level... Don't know her as a person, but she's a great player. What she does, what she's been doing since game one to now... got nothing but respect for her." The Fever remain thin at the guard position, but Sims brings valuable veteran experience and the ability to contribute immediately, as Clark continues to rehab a groin injury that has kept her sidelined for the last 10 games. Sims’ career has spanned several teams. After a standout collegiate run at Baylor, she has played for the Tulsa Shock, had two stints each with the Dallas Wings and Los Angeles Sparks, and also spent time with the Minnesota Lynx, Atlanta Dream, and Connecticut Sun. For her career, Sims is averaging 11.2 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 rebounds. She will wear No. 1 for the Fever.
Seahawks CB Riq Woolen turning heads, but can Seattle keep him?
After a down 2023 season, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen re-established himself last season as one of the team's more reliable defenders. In training camp, the 26-year-old seems to be picking up where he left off. “Riq’s locked in this year,” Seattle third-year cornerback Devon Witherspoon said, per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. “He just continues to be better. Riq’s got a lot of stuff to show a lot of people.” But can Seattle keep him? Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Woolen will make $5.4 million this season (h/t: Spotrac). Per Over The Cap, the Seahawks are projected to have roughly $61M in cap space in 2026, but they also have other players to sign. Seattle soon will give a top-tier contract to Witherspoon, a two-time Pro Bowler. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and offensive tackles Charles Cross and Anthony Lucas also may merit bigger deals soon. The Seahawks won’t have a lot of salary cap space left if they want to extend most of their top young players. In training camp, Woolen frequently defends against Smith-Njigba, who is one of the more dynamic route-runners in the league. The Seahawks are labeling him as one of the top performers in training camp. Woolen could be one of the top options by the trade deadline later in the season. He could give a team a much-needed upgrade in defending against the passing game. The Seahawks could get a good package in return if they are unable to extend to a longer contract.
Mets' slide continues with arguably their worst loss of the season
The New York Mets are trending in the wrong direction, and their slide continued on Sunday with what might have been their worst loss of the season. The Mets not only were on the losing end of a 7-6 walk-off loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, they blew a 5-0 lead in the process and extended their losing streak to seven consecutive games. Even worse, they have lost 11 out of their past 12 games during a time where the Philadelphia Phillies are starting to pull away in the National League East race. The biggest issue for the Mets for most of this slump has been an offense that has gone ice cold. But that wasn't necessarily the problem on Sunday as they pushed six runs across the plate. The problem on Sunday was a rough start for Sean Manaea (four earned runs in four innings) and a bullpen that was unable to hold on to a late lead. Trade-deadline addition Ryan Helsley allowed the tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning when he allowed an RBI single to Joey Ortiz. That set the stage for star closer Edwin Diaz to serve up a walk-off home run to Isaac Collins. The Mets are still holding a playoff spot in the National League, but it is getting more uncomfortable by the day. After Sunday's games they are in the third and final wild-card spot in the National League, and only have 1.5 games of cushion between them and the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets had sky-high expectations this season after making the playoffs a year ago and then adding Juan Soto in free agency. While Soto's bat has ended up being everything the Mets hoped it would be, the rest of the offense has struggled in the heat of the summer and now the pressure is only going to keep mounting if they do not get out of this slump soon. With nine of their next 12 games coming against the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals — two of the worst teams in the National League — there is at least an opportunity for them to maybe get back on track. They need to, because after that stretch they have a three-game home series against the Phillies that could go a long way toward determining the path of their season.
Eagles get big injury scare at practice regarding key starter
The Philadelphia Eagles got a major injury scare during Sunday's open practice at Lincoln Financial Field when Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson went down with a leg injury and had to be carted off to the locker room. Dickerson was reportedly unable to put any weight on his leg. Dickerson, a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) by the team in 2021 has been a starter for the Eagles over the first four years of his career and developed into one of the best offensive linemen in football. He has been named to the Pro Bowl team in each of the past three seasons and is a key cog on the Eagles' line. The Eagles' O-line is one of the team's biggest strengths and a big part of its identity, and Dickerson has taken over as one of the top leaders on that group. The Eagles are already dealing with some depth issues on the interior of their line after backup Kenyon Green had to be carted off the field in their opening preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. If Dickerson has to miss any significant time that would be a huge blow to the Eagles' offense and their running game. But it's still very early in the process and the Eagles will almost certainly know more by Monday. The Eagles were the second-leading rushing team in the NFL during the 2024 season, averaging 179 yards per game. Running back Saquon Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards as part of their season, with the offensive line playing a huge role in both of those achievements.
