No. 4 USC women overcome turnover woes to hand No. 8 Maryland first loss of season

The fourth-ranked USC Trojans picked up a massive road win on Wednesday night, handing the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins their first loss of the season, 79-74.

The Trojans were able to get the win despite 19 turnovers in the game, including eight from star guard JuJu Watkins.

USC's turnover woes have to improve as conference play heats up. In the Trojans' only loss of the season to then-No. 6 Notre Dame on Nov. 23, they committed 21 turnovers. While USC was able to get the win despite the 19 turnovers against Maryland, that is an area the Trojans must improve in.

Watkins and senior forward Kiki Iriafen scored 21 points each, but only shot a combined 14-for-36 from the floor. The Trojans made five of their 15 three-point shots. Fortunately for USC, it was able to make up for the lack of long-range shots by going 22-for-26 from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Shyanne Sellers led the Terrapins with a season-high 26 points (8-of-15 FG). This pump fake under the basket resulted in two of her points on the night.

The downfall for Maryland was its three-point shooting (14.3%).

After suffering its first setback of the season, Maryland (14-1, 4-1 Big Ten) will travel to Madison to face Wisconsin on Saturday.

USC (15-1, 5-0 Big Ten) will take its 11-game winning streak back home as it hosts Penn State on Sunday.
