Gervonta Davis' Hairstylist Fires Back After 'Grease' Excuse Leads to Fight Controversy

Gervonta Davis found himself at the center of controversy after his majority draw against Lamont Roach on Saturday night, and his explanation for a bizarre moment in the ninth round only fueled the backlash.

Davis, who took a voluntary knee without being knocked down, avoided what many believe should have been an official knockdown ruling.

Referee Steve Willis instead allowed the fight to continue without docking Davis a point, ultimately helping him retain his WBA lightweight title.

Davis later claimed his unexpected drop to the canvas was due to grease running into his eyes, a result of a recent hair appointment.

“I just got my hair done two days ago and she put grease in my (expletive), so the (expletive) was like sweating and things like that and the grease coming in my my face," Davis explained. "It burned my eyes type (expletive)."

His hairstylist, known as “Lee B The Brand,” wasn’t having it. In a now-deleted Instagram post, she pushed back against the claim.

“I did his hair WEDNESDAY, It’s SATURDAY! He did press, gym and weigh in. That’s no excuse, how much grease did I use damn,” she wrote on Instagram. She also shared a post showcasing his work on Davis' hair.

The moment in question occurred after Roach landed a right hand. Davis moved back before inexplicably taking a knee and heading to his corner, where his face was wiped down.

Willis initially appeared to start an eight-count but stopped, asking, “What’s going on man?” before allowing the fight to resume.

Roach, who believed he won the fight on his own merit, pointed to that moment as the biggest swing in the final majority draw decision.

"If that’s a knockdown, I win the fight," Roach said. "He’s saying grease got in his eye, but if he takes a knee and the ref starts counting, it should be a knockdown."

Despite the controversy, Davis escaped with his title intact, and at this point, it's unknown if both fighters will agree to a rematch shortly after their last fight ended without a proper winner.
