Russell Wilson in line to start after finally signing with new team

The financial commitment suggests the Giants plan to enter 2025 with Wilson as their starting quarterback. For comparison, they also recently signed fellow veteran quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8M deal.

By signing Wilson, the Giants have essentially taken themselves out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes. They may have reason to believe Rodgers plans to sign with the Steelers after the former MVP spent time in Pittsburgh last week.

Wilson went 6-5 in 11 starts with the Steelers last season. He threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while leading the team to the playoffs. Pittsburgh closed out the year with five straight losses, including a 28-14 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

The Giants have the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, so it is still possible they could draft a quarterback. They are only committed to Wilson for one year, so they may view him as a bridge option while they develop a younger player at the position.
