The New England Patriots have continued their free agency spending spree by signing Stefon Diggs. The 31-year-old wide receiver joined New England on a three-year deal worth $69M that includes $26M in guaranteed money.
The addition of Diggs, while not a long-term solution at wide receiver, does diminish the immediate need for the position. New England’s need at left tackle does still remain, however, as former sixth-round pick Vederian Lowe is currently projected to start.
These are both factors to consider when assessing New England's options with the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Here are four options for the Patriots.
Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter
The case for New England to draft Hunter is very simple. Selecting the best player available is the optimal team building strategy in the draft, and Hunter has a strong case for that distinction.
The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is a very unique talent who started on both sides of the ball for Colorado. Regardless of what Hunter chooses to be his primary position, his combination of ball skills, fluid movement ability and instincts give him a great chance at finding success.

There’s a good chance Hunter could be off the board by the time New England is on the clock, but if he isn’t, the Patriots should be sprinting the card in.
Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter
Carter also has a strong case for being the best player in the draft class. Carter was one of the best players in college football, being one of eight players to be a unanimous All-American selection last season.
Carter projects very well to the NFL as his first step explosiveness, burst and bend will be a nightmare for offensive tackles to go against.

After signing Harold Landry, EDGE isn’t atop of New England’s list of needs headed into the draft. That is not something that should prevent the Patriots from adding Carter if they have the choice, as he is a high-end talent.
LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell
New England brought in Morgan Moses this offseason, however the need at left tackle is still very pressing. That makes adding Campbell an intriguing proposition for the Patriots.
The 2024 consensus All-American started 37 games for LSU. His consistency as a pass protector is particularly appealing for New England who are looking to prioritize protecting its young quarterback, Drake Maye.
Campbell has been a commonly mocked player for the Patriots at No. 4, and that is unlikely to change. If New England finds itself in a scenario where Hunter and Carter are both off the board, Campbell would be a good consolation prize.
Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan
Signing Diggs makes a McMillan selection less likely but it’s not something that should be ruled out.
The Patriots have invested at wide receiver in their recent draft classes, but they have yet to find someone who can be the No. 1 target for Maye long-term. Adding a playmaker like McMillan would give them someone who can fill that role.
