Utah QB Cam Rising is medically retiring from football

Cam Rising has been playing college football for a long time. He committed to Texas out of high school in 2018 but ultimately ended up at Utah.

He's been a staple for Utah ever since and has been a part of some really big games. He's also had some incredible moments.

The problem for Rising is that he's dealt with plenty of injuries throughout his career.

In 2020, he started one game against USC before missing the rest of the season with a season-ending injury. He helped Utah win Pac-12 championships in 2021 and 2022,, but he missed all of 2023 with a knee injury and then played in only three games in 2024 because of a leg injury.

Rising still has a year of eligibility remaining because of redshirt seasons and the COVID-19 waiver seasons, but he announced on X on Wednesday that he's deciding to give up his football dreams.

While it does sound like Rising is leaving the door open for a comeback, the odds are stacked against him because of all the injuries he's gone through in his college career.

If this really is the end, and it sounds like it will be, he absolutely left his mark on the Utah football program. He was a major part of those two Pac-12 championship seasons.

He was a first-team All-Pac-12 quarterback in 2021 after throwing for 2,493 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 499 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. In 2022, he threw for 3,034 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 465 yards and six scores on the ground.

Rising played in 30 career games for the Utes, starting in 28. He'll retire fourth all-time at Utah in career passing touchdowns and total touchdowns.
