Is it possible that one of the most successful MLB franchises throughout the last decade is flying under the radar? Well, don't look now, but the Houston Astros are making a case as a legitimate contender for the American League pennant once again.
The Astros' most recent performance allowed them to flex their muscles and show why they are always a force to be reckoned with. On Friday, Houston opened their weekend series by dominating the Minnesota Twins to the tune of 10-3.
Houston led all throughout the game, scoring multiple runs in each of the first three innings and a total of nine in the first four innings.
Five different Astros drove in runs, highlighted by a three-RBI game from Jose Altuve, the most veteran member of the franchise who debuted long before the championship years in 2011.
Altuve drove in a pair of base runners with a two-run double in the second and then blasted a solo home run in his next at-bat. He finished the game 2-for-4 and is now hitting .278 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI on the year in 66 games.

In addition to Altuve's brilliance at the plate in his 16th start as the designated hitter, Jason Melton knocked in three runs in just two at-bats, Cam Smith went 2-for-4 with a couple RBIs of his own and Jeremy Pena recorded four hits, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Colton Gordon pitched six solid innings, striking out five and earning his second win of the season in his sixth start.

Houston is now 7-3 in their last 10 games, 39-30 overall and holds a commanding five-game lead in the AL West while showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
