Fans probably couldn't wait to watch Caitlin Clark at WNBA All-Star weekend, but may have to wait until next year.
The Indiana Fever guard was ruled out before Wednesday's 98-77 road loss to the New York Liberty due to a right groin injury. She reaggravated it in the final minute of Tuesday's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun in Boston.
The update raises more questions about Clark's status heading into All-Star weekend. She has been named a participant for the three-point contest on Friday and a captain for the game on Saturday.
Fever head coach Stephanie White didn't reveal when Clark will return and hasn't been involved in her All-Star weekend decision. Indianapolis is hosting the event for the first time in WNBA history.
"Caitlin and her team will make decisions when it comes to All-Star," White said, via ESPN's Alexa Philippou. "For me, it's a big deal for us to have All-Star in Indianapolis, and of course, with Caitlin being the focal point of all that. As the coach of the Indiana Fever, it's not a bigger deal than our long-term season, but it's also part of the fun. Those are conversations Caitlin will have with her group. I probably won't be a part of those, but we're going to support her, no matter what."
If White were a part of those conversations, she should advise Clark to opt out of All-Star weekend.
The 23-year-old may be disappointed she won't participate in front of Indiana fans. However, there are more important things she must consider, specifically health.
The second-year star missed zero games in four seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes and her rookie season with the Fever. Groin and calf injuries have sidelined her for 10 games this season. That could be why she doesn't look the same.
Clark won the 2024 Rookie of the Year Award after averaging 19.2 points per game while shooting 34.4% from three-point range in 40 regular-season games. Through 13 games in 2025, she has logged 16.5 PPG while shooting 27.9% from three. She hasn't scored 20 points since an 88-71 June 17 win over the Sun.
Clark should take a break. More All-Star weekends should be in her future, and avoiding injuries is paramount.
