Brewers catch break with star rookie's positive injury update

The Milwaukee Brewers appear to have dodged catastrophe.

After placing rookie pitching phenom Jacob Misiorowski (shin) on the 15-day injured list (IL) retroactive to last Thursday, MLB Network's Jon Morosi offered a positive update, saying that Misiorowski is unlikely to miss any additional time past his IL stint.

"Looks like he might only be out another 10 days. Very, very good news for the Brewers," Morosi said.

Misiorowski missed his scheduled start on Sunday after taking a line drive off his shin last Monday.

The 6-foot-7 flame-throwing right-hander made his major league debut on June 12. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft.

In his first seven starts, Misiorowski has taken MLB by storm, going 4-1 with a 2.70 earned run average (ERA). He was — to the chagrin of some — selected as an All-Star replacement after just four starts.

Through 33.1 innings, Misiorowski has 47 strikeouts while allowing 18 hits and 14 walks.

He's been a key member of a Brewers pitching rotation that has evolved into of the league's top units this season after a rough start.

Milwaukee allowed at least 10 runs in four of its first nine games. In its 102 games since, Milwaukee has only given up 10 runs twice.

The Brewers (68-44) defeated the Atlanta Braves (47-64), 3-1, on Monday, to improve to 44-18 over their last 62 games, the best record in MLB. During that span, Brewers pitchers have produced a league-leading 3.25 ERA.

Milwaukee's pitching depth should allow it to not miss a beat with Misiorowski sidelined. But with Monday's update, the starting rotation should be back at full strength in a hurry.
