Skyy Moore admits he had a problem during last days with Chiefs

Skyy Moore was ready to leave the Kansas City Chiefs for a new opportunity this summer. The 2022 second-round pick has a chance to reset his career following Thursday's trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

Following the 49ers' 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night, Moore told reporters he had a mental problem with the Chiefs and is happy to have a fresh start in San Francisco.

"Yeah, I feel like I definitely needed a fresh start," Moore said via 49ers Webzone. "I found myself in my head a lot over in Kansas City and that's never good. I feel like today, let it loose and just go out and play because I don't know anything anyway. So, I got to just play ball."

Moore appeared in 36 games and started in 11 during his first three seasons in the league. He recorded 43 receptions for 494 yards and one touchdown during that time. He lost three fumbles in his rookie season, which didn't help his confidence.

Moore is hoping to "put the fun back in the game" with the 49ers. He recorded three receptions for 19 yards during his debut with San Francisco on Sunday night.

Moore's transition to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's scheme has been mostly smooth for the fourth-year receiver. However, he said he's still confused by some of the different terminology San Francisco uses versus what he was used to hearing in Kansas City.

There was a reason the Chiefs took Moore early on Day 2 of the 2022 draft. He came off a season in 2021 where he racked up 1,292 yards and 10 touchdowns with Western Michigan. He's a speedy return man.

Moore's issue in the league has been his hands. Fumbles and drops caused the Chiefs to lose patience with him amid a roster that won two Super Bowls and made a third. He'll need to clear the mental hurdle to keep his new job with the 49ers.
