Tempers flare, ejections handed out during Giants-Rockies game

It's not every day that a player doesn't get to take his stroll around the bases after a home run due to a bench clearing incident.

San Francisco Giants first baseman Rafael Devers, though, can now speak from experience. Devers, along with teammates Matt Chapman and Willy Adames were involved in a bit of a scrum with Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland.

It started after Devers hit a two-run home run off Freeland in the top of the first inning. He admired his moonshot before Freeland began barking in his direction.

That got the attention of Chapman and Adames who rushed toward Freeland to defend their teammate. Chapman gave Freeland an unpleasant shove which caused Freeland to throw a punch and the benches emptied.

When the dust settled, the trio of Chapman, Adames and Freeland were ejected from the game. Chapman and Adames were ejected before even getting an at-bat during the game.

It will be interesting to see how MLB disciplines the players involved and see if any suspensions are handed out.

San Francisco cannot afford to lose its star players in Chapman and Adames in the heat of the race for a National League wild-card berth.
