Oklahoma has two massive wins on the recruiting trail on the same day

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners have to be feeling very good about themselves after stacking up some major wins on the 2027 recruiting trail. Yes, on the field, they're dealing with an injury to Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback John Mateer. At 4-0 and ranked No. 7 in college football, though, the Sooners have a chance to make some real noise this season, especially once Mateer gets back from his right hand injury.

In the meantime, big recruiting wins will have to help hold Sooners fans over, and they've got plenty to celebrate.

Early on Thursday morning, elite 2027 five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, committed to the Sooners. Ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country and the top player in the state, according to the 247Sports composite, Hackett checks in at nearly 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds.

Hackett represents not just a big commitment for Oklahoma, but he was a flip as well. He had previously been committed to Texas Tech. Not to be outdone, another big 2026 offensive line recruit, Kaeden Penny from Bixby, Oklahoma, committed to the Sooners.

Penny checks in at 6-foot-4, 265 pounds, and he's ranked as the No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the 2027 class as well as the No. 2 player from Oklahoma, according to the 247Sports Composite.

For those keeping track, the Sooners have now landed the top two 2027 recruits from the state of Oklahoma. The fact that they're both offensive lineman makes this haul even more impressive, because Venables is clearly looking to keep building this program from the line of scrimmage out.

That's how championships are won, and the Sooners know a couple of things about that. Oklahoma now has four 2027 commitments in a class that is off to a blazing hot start. The Sooners' 2027 class is ranked No. 3 nationally
