Fox broadcaster, former NFL QB Mark Sanchez stabbed during late-night Indianapolis incident

Fox Sports NFL color commentator Mark Sanchez was stabbed during a late-night incident in Indianapolis this weekend.

On Saturday, TMZ Sports reported that Sanchez, the former New York Jets quarterback, has been hospitalized and is in stable condition. The situation happened shortly after midnight, with ESPN sharing additional information in a statement provided by the Indianapolis Metro Police Department.

"Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between two men and not a random act of violence," the department said.

In a separate statement, Fox Sports wrote, "We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family's privacy during this time."

Later in the day, local police arrested Sanchez for his alleged role in the incident, according to FOX59's Angela Ganote.

"Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all which are misdemeanors," Ganote reports.

Mark Sanchez was in Indianapolis for AFC Week 5 game

Sanchez was set to call Week 5's game between the Las Vegas Raiders (1-3) and Indianapolis Colts (3-1) alongside play-by-play commentator Chris Myers. The eight-year NFL veteran has been with the network since 2021, when he was hired following a two-year stint calling college football games for ESPN.

Sanchez was the No. 5 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft after playing collegiately for the USC Trojans, where he was coached by current Raiders head coach Pete Carroll. He reached the AFC Championship Game in each of his first two seasons with the Jets (2009-10), which was also the last time they made the playoffs.
