Jaxson Dart showcased some dual-threat ability during his successful college career at Ole Miss, but he has been even better than expected in the run game since he was named the starting quarterback of the New York Giants. One surprising statistic is proof of that.
Dart has rushed for 167 total yards in his first three NFL starts. He had at least 50 rushing yards in each game, which is an incredibly rare accomplishment. Dart is only the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to rush for 50 or more yards in his first three starts.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter noted on Saturday, only two other quarterbacks ran for at least 50 yards in each of their first three career NFL starts. The other two were Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.
Jackson rushed for 265 yards across his first three starts. Hurts ran for 238 yards during that span in his respective career. The streak ended there for Hurts, who had 34 rushing yards in his fourth start. Jackson kept it going with two more games with at least 50 yards on the ground, giving him a streak of five total to begin his career.

When Dart was coming out of college earlier this year, NFL scouts knew he was an athletic player who could impact a game with his legs. That said, Dart rushed for 495 yards on 124 attempts at Ole Miss last year. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry across four college seasons. Those numbers are fairly modest compared to some of the great dual-threat college quarterbacks.
For comparison, Hurts rushed for 1,298 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry as a senior at Oklahoma. Jackson rushed for 1,601 and had a whopping 6.9 yards per carry in his final college season at Louisville.
Everyone knew Dart could run, but very few people viewed him as the same type of dual threat quarterback as Jackson or Hurts. That is why it is so surprising that the rookie has rushed for 50 or more yards in his first three starts. It is also a big reason the Giants are 2-1 in those games.
