Members of the Denver Broncos and New York Giants engaged in a bit of trash talk ahead of the Week 7 game between the sides in Denver.
Part of that saga involved Broncos pass-rusher Jonathon Cooper taking some shots at Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and Denver's Nik Bonitto posting on social media that he had "never seen such a delusional fanbase." Coming off the Broncos' historic comeback, which ended with the hosts notching a 33-32 win that improved their record to 5-2 on the season, Bonitto offered some praise for Dart.
"I have to give him credit," Bonitto said about Dart during a Tuesday appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program. "He’s a lot better than we all thought that he was when we played against him. He was obviously a really good player coming into the game. I feel like his feel for the game, his ability to be able to move in the pocket and make plays on the run -- we even had a plan for him all week to be able to have eyes on him and rush him the right way, and he was still able to go around and make plays."
Dart completed 15-of-33 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns and one inexcusable fourth-quarter interception against Denver. While he was held to just 11 total rushing yards, he responded to his costly pick by driving the Giants down the field (with the help of two defensive penalties) before he used his legs to score a go-ahead touchdown with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.
However, the Giants defense was unable to prevent Denver's offense from getting into field-goal range for what became a walk-off kick. In total, the Broncos scored 33 fourth-quarter points against Big Blue.
Despite the result, Dart clearly earned respect from multiple individuals associated with the Broncos.

Sean Payton talks about the Giants' organization and his respect for the Mara and Tisch families:

"They found a little spark with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mara not too long ago and I said, 'we were hoping that that change would've happened long after our game.'" pic.twitter.com/Zk7TVXs1xY
"I was really impressed with him," Bonitto added about Dart. "I know as the year goes on, he’s gonna be a really good player. He’s definitely gonna be something we're gonna have to watch out for in the league."
Dart will look to bounce back from his first real NFL heartbreak when the 2-5 Giants play at the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) this coming Sunday. As of Wednesday morning, ESPN BET had the Eagles as 7.5-point favorites for that matchup.
