The New York Jets improved to 2-7 on the season via a 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. That said, Jets quarterback Justin Fields was largely a passenger for much of the victory that featured the Jets scoring touchdowns on a kickoff return and a punt return.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was asked how he felt Fields performed against the Browns at a rain-soaked MetLife Stadium.
"When you get two returns like that on special teams, the offense doesn't have a good amount of plays, especially in the passing game. He only threw 11 passes. I think he was 6-of-11," Glenn said about Fields, per SNY.
Fields did, in fact, complete 6-of-11 pass attempts for 54 yards against the Browns. Running back Breece Hall was responsible for 42 of those yards when he took a short pass to the house for a touchdown early in the game's fourth quarter. In the second quarter, Cleveland's Ronnie Hickman intercepted Fields after the signal-caller seemed to make a poor decision:

"Obviously, there's some things that we've got to clean up there, but there were also some good things that he did," Glenn added about Fields. "I know he threw the one pick. I will say this. I was happy that he tried to force the ball, get the ball downfield in that situation. I thought Cleveland did a hell of a job with their coverage."
According to Pro Football Reference, Fields began Monday ranked 29th in the NFL among qualified players with a 35.7 adjusted QBR on the season. Glenn seemed unbothered by such stats while talking about his team's offense on Monday.
"As coaches, we coach to win the game," Glenn said. "As players, you play to win the game, however that may be. Sometimes, it's not pretty for fantasy players. Sometimes, it's not pretty for the media. The only thing that matters is how we did it. The W is all that matters."
As was the case leading up to the Jets' past two games, Glenn declined on Monday to confirm that Fields will start over backup Tyrod Taylor when the Jets play at the New England Patriots (8-2) this coming Thursday night.
"Please don’t ask me anything about the quarterbacks," Glenn said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "You know I’m not going to tell you, and I don’t want to waste my time when it comes to that, when it comes to who’s starting."
There's been no indication that Glenn wants to bench Fields to play Taylor. Perhaps that will change if Fields produces a dud in what becomes a "Thursday Night Football" loss at New England's Gillette Stadium.
