Dylan Raiola and other big-name QBs to know in the transfer portal

Raiola's play, of course, hasn't come close to Mahomes in two seasons at Nebraska, but he's a solid option for teams seeking a veteran QB. In 22 starts for the Cornhuskers, he completed an above-average 69.1% of his passes for 4,819 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also set the program's freshman record for passing yards (2,819) during the 2024 season. 

Per CBS Sports' Chris Hummer, Raiola's camp has shown interest in Oregon. The Ducks could lose sophomore QB Dante Moore — who ranks 16th in the FBS in QBR (77.8) — to the 2026 NFL Draft, scheduled April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.  

Oregon has a strong tradition at QB, making it a more attractive destination for Raiola. Former Ducks stars Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers) and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos) are now thriving in the NFL. 

DJ Lagway

On Monday, Lagway confirmed on Instagram that he will be transferring from Florida. Per Hummer, the QB wanted to stay with the Gators, but his meeting with new head coach Jon Sumrall didn't go well, convincing him to leave. 

Lagway — a former five-star recruit — was former Florida HC Billy Napier's prized prospect. During the 2024 season, the QB showed promise, tossing 12 TD passes. But he failed to improve during an injury-riddled 2025. 

Lagway battled calf and shoulder issues throughout the season. The injuries clearly affected his performance. In 12 games, he threw 16 TD passes and a career-high 14 interceptions. 

A healthy Lagway could revive his career at another school, perhaps Baylor. His father, Derek, played running back for the Big 12 program from 1997-2001. The Bears are also losing senior QB Sawyer Robertson, who ranks second in the FBS in passing yards (3,681), to the NFL. 

Sam Leavitt

Per ESPN's Paolo Uggetti, Leavitt has already told Arizona State he intends to transfer. He should be one of the most highly coveted QBs in the portal. 

He led the Sun Devils to their first College Football Playoff appearance during the 2024 season, throwing 24 TD passes in 13 games. For his efforts, he earned a second-team All-Big 12 nod. This season, Leavitt was sidelined by a foot injury that required surgery. In seven games, he threw 10 TDs and three interceptions. 

Despite a disappointing 2025, Leavitt is already attracting multiple suitors in the portal. On3's Pete Nakos has reported that Oregon, Indiana, LSU and Miami are courting the QB.

LSU could be the most intriguing destination. Landing a star in Leavitt could help new head coach Lane Kiffin start strong in Baton Rouge.  

Brendan Sorsby

On Monday, junior QB Sorsby announced he's transferring from Cincinnati. The Athletic's college football staff noted he could still enter the 2026 draft. Underclassmen have until Jan. 14 to turn pro. 

Sorsby's stock should be pointing upward after a career year with the Bearcats. In 12 games, he threw a career-high 27 TD passes. He also ranked fourth in the Big 12 in passing yards (2,800). 

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz and Hummer have reported that Indiana and Texas Tech are potential destinations for Sorsby. The QB played for the Hoosiers from 2022-23. 

Returning to Indiana may be the better option for Sorsby. Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti is already a proven QB guru. Look at QB Fernando Mendoza, winner of the 2025 Heisman Trophy.

Aidan Chiles

On Monday, Chiles reportedly told Michigan State he intends to transfer. The move comes two years after he followed recently fired HC Jonathan Smith from Oregon State to East Lansing. 

Chiles produced decent numbers in two seasons with the Spartans. In 21 games for Michigan State, he threw 23 TD passes and 14 interceptions. In 2025, though, he was benched in favor of redshirt freshman Alessio Milivojevic before a Week 9 loss to Minnesota. 

Chiles would be best served by transferring to a school with a proven track record of helping QBs salvage their careers, like Miami. This season, former Georgia QB Carson Beck has improved his draft stock considerably. In 12 games, he has thrown 25 TD passes, the second most in his career.
