Sunday night's 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings crushed the postseason hopes of the Dallas Cowboys. And while there's still one unlikely path forward that would require winning out and the Eagles losing the rest of their games, Dallas will most likely be at home in January again.
Though they briefly turned the corner, former NFL coach and defensive guru Rex Ryan never believed in the Cowboys. He even explained the glaring issue with a team that possesses one of the best offenses in the league on ESPN's "Get Up" on Monday morning.
When asked what's been the Cowboys' main issue, Ryan emphatically responded that it's "their defense, 100%" before elaborating further.
"This is a Super Bowl-caliber offense. We've seen it all year, but this defense stinks. They made J.J. McCarthy look like Fran Tarkenton," said Ryan to open up his rant on the Dallas defense.
He then went further, turning his attention to the Cowboys coaching staff.
"Physically, they're not what they were," Ryan said. "They moved on from [Micah] Parsons, but you made some trades that helped your team. However, I don't know what it is, whether it's the scheme or the fact, like you're either coaching it or allowing it to happen."

Some may not like a former coach blasting current coaches, but the numbers back up everything Ryan said.
When a team with an offense that ranks at the top of the NFL in yards per game (396.9) sits at 6-7-1, it's pretty clear what's been going on. Conversely, the defense ranks as the fourth worst in terms of yards allowed at 374.9 and also the second worst in total points allowed (420) and points against per game (30.0).
Six different teams have reached or exceeded 30 points when facing the Cowboys, most recently the 6-8 Vikings, who knew they were eliminated from playoff contention before kickoff.
On one hand, it's obvious which side of the ball needs to be the primary focus of the offseason. However, finding a quick fix for a defense that's struggled so much while also trying to re-sign wide receiver George Pickens and stay under the salary cap won't be easy.
