A recent report revealed that Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has allegedly grown "tired of" quarterback Lamar Jackson after Jackson had supposedly fallen asleep in team meetings and developed a reputation for playing video games into the early morning hours.
Additionally, some have suggested Jackson may want to make an offseason move to the Miami Dolphins or Las Vegas Raiders. While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Jackson denied such claims and also insisted he "absolutely, absolutely, absolutely" wants to remain with the Ravens.
During Friday's edition of ESPN's "Get Up" program, NFL insider Peter Schrager shared whether the Ravens feel the same way about the two-time regular-season Most Valuable Player.
"From everything I've gathered from the Ravens' organization," Schrager said, "they absolutely want Lamar Jackson to be the quarterback of their future."
Harbaugh defended Jackson after the previous story went public, and it's unlikely that Baltimore would land an immediate upgrade at the position this coming offseason. That said, Jackson signed a five-year contract reportedly worth up to $260M (with $185M guaranteed) in the spring of 2023.
According to Ryan Mink of the team's website, the salary-cap hit related to that deal jumps to $74.5M next season. Thus, the two sides likely will need to work something out regarding a new extension or a restructuring this coming spring.
Some noted that Jackson looked "diminished physically" after he returned to the lineup from a right hamstring injury that sidelined him for three games this past fall. More recently, he missed Baltimore's Week 17 win over the Green Bay Packers because of a "pretty significant" back bruise.
Jackson is on track to play in this coming Sunday night's must-win game at the 9-7 Pittsburgh Steelers that will determine which club advances to the playoffs as champions of the AFC North and which sees its campaign come to an end.
Recent reports indicated that chatter about the Ravens and Harbaugh possibly parting ways later in January is mostly stemming "from fan discontent" and is not coming from individuals within the organization.
If, however, it's true that Harbaugh has grown "tired of" his current QB1, there could exist a scenario in which the Ravens choose the coach over the player and allow Harbaugh to rebuild the roster by acquiring assets for Jackson's services.
