Insider repeats claim that Jets owner Woody Johnson has made Aaron Glenn decision

A recent report said that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and other higher-ups within the organization have had no discussions about possibly moving on from first-year head coach Aaron Glenn despite the fact that the Jets lost their first seven games and first 13 of 16 contests under Glenn.

Former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason still has ties to the franchise. During Friday's edition of the WFAN morning show, Esiason indicated that Johnson has already made a final decision regarding Glenn's status.

Woody Johnson will not make this Aaron Glenn call?

"He is not going to get fired," Esiason said about Glenn. "He's just not going to get fired. Woody Johnson is not going to fire him. I don't care what you say as a fan. You can call me up and give me all the reasons why he should be fired. And I can't argue with those."

Glenn's status with the Jets came into question after the club suffered four double-digit losses in December. However, there continues to be no real sign outside of chatter sparked by fans and sports-talk radio hosts that Johnson will fire Glenn and/or first-year general manager Darren Mougey.

This past fall, Johnson let Mougey acquire assets for star cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams ahead of the trade deadline. Those moves hinted that Johnson understood the Jets roster needed an overhaul beyond what occurred following the 2024 campaign.

Why Woody Johnson won't fire Aaron Glenn

"Here's why I don't believe that Woody Johnson will fire Aaron Glenn," Esiason continued. "Number one, he's got a five-year contract. So, that means they'd have to fire him and pay him for four more years. And [Johnson is] not going to do that. He may do it for three more years, if things don't turn around next year. He may do it next year. But, he's not going to do it this year and then pay another coach on top of it..."

Esiason also noted how Glenn, Mougey and others within the Jets "probably sat down" and determined at some point in the fall that the club's roster wasn't as good as thought this past summer. Esiason even suggested that the Jets are essentially "tanking" by starting undrafted rookie Brady Cook at quarterback. Outsiders should learn Glenn's fate not long after the Jets finish a woeful season with a matchup at the rival Buffalo Bills (11-5) this coming Sunday.
