The Toronto Blue Jays remain active in their pursuit of talent following their unsuccessful World Series run.
They've reportedly stayed in touch with Kyle Tucker, all while Bo Bichette tests the market as one of the most sought-after free agents in baseball.
The Blue Jays and Bichette have said all the right things regarding a potential reunion, but there have been little to no updates on the situation.
And with multiple teams entering the race to land the 27-year-old, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic believes a return to Canada is "increasingly unlikely."
Bannon reports that the Blue Jays' crowded middle infield means they might only be interested in Bichette if he wants to sign a shorter contract.
"Perhaps if Bichette elects to take a shorter deal with opt-outs, similar to the contracts signed by Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso and Cody Bellinger in recent offseasons, the Jays could make things work for a year," Bannon reported. "More likely, Toronto would have to make a significant trade, like moving Anthony Santander with four years left on his deal, to open room for Bichette."
Given his current market value and all the teams keeping tabs on him, that doesn't sound likely at this point.
Bichette is reportedly willing to move to second base after thriving there in the World Series, and that should only open up more opportunities in free agency for him.
Those opportunities, however, will most likely drive him away from Canadian soil.
