Anthony Edwards joins legendary company by surpassing milestone career total

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has reached a new level of NBA rarified air. Edwards' 25-point night in the Timberwolves' 131-122 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers elevated his career total to 10,002.

Now at only 24, Edwards has surpassed the 10,000-point milestone as he continues to build a career that will likely land him in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

To fully speak to Edwards' early-career dominance at such a young age, he became only the seventh player to reach the 10,000 mark before turning 25.

Anthony Edwards joined some elite company

Edwards joined the company of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, Tracy McGrady, and Carmelo Anthony on that list.

In addition to his 25 points, which he accumulated by connecting on 10-of-20 shots from the field and making four from long range, Edwards was one assist from a double-double performance and one assist and three rebounds from a triple-double. Showing his versatility, Edwards also recorded nine assists and seven boards against the Cavaliers.

Edwards now holds season averages of 29.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 50.4% from the field.

Fair or not, Anthony Edwards won't be judged by how many points he scores

With the win, Edwards has led the Timberwolves to a 25-13 record and a spot as the current No. 4 team in the Western Conference standings. However, after back-to-back trips to the Conference Finals, Edwards is going to be judged much more by how far he can keep leading his team in the playoffs and if he can get them over the hump into the Finals than any individual achievement or accolade.

Still, though, Edwards has plenty of time to keep trying and building his resume. The 2020 first overall pick is already a three-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA Second Team selection.
