The comeback Bears did it again. Down 21-3, the Chicago Bears rallied with an impressive second half to move on to the NFC divisional round.
This time, however, it meant more. It was against their lifelong and most hated rivals, the Green Bay Packers, the very same team that tormented them for decades.
There's no love lost between these two teams. They've traded multiple jabs this season, which is why Bears QB Caleb Williams wanted to make sure to get the last laugh. Following the win, the former No. 1 pick took another shot at his divisional foes.
“Yeah, they wanted us. That's what I heard,” Williams said. “They wanted it and they got it.”
As has repeatedly happened with Ben Johnson's team, it wasn't easy, and it definitely wasn't always pretty. Then again, Williams and the Bears rose to the occasion when it mattered the most.
With the game on the line and facing fourth down, Williams turned a broken play into a 27-yard bomb to Rome Odunze to keep the drive and their hopes alive. When asked about that moment, the USC product didn't hold back.
“The only option we had was to go out there and be legendary, go out there and execute, and go out there and do our part on the offensive side, defensive side, and special teams,” Williams said, per The Athletic. “Go win the [expletive] game.”
Williams had 195 total yards and two passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter of his playoff debut, and it's safe to say that this rivalry is alive and well. They will now host either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Los Angeles Rams, all while their neighbors from Wisconsin might be in the market for a new head coach.
