Add another name to the Oregon Ducks' line of successful transfer quarterbacks.
Former Nebraska Cornhuskers QB Dylan Raiola announced Monday via Instagram that he's planning to transfer to Oregon. That suggests starting QB Dante Moore may declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, scheduled April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. He has until Wednesday to make his decision.
Ducks fourth-year head coach Dan Lanning is known for turning promising but struggling QBs into first-round draft picks. That clearly attracted Raiola to Oregon.
Lanning, a disciple of former Alabama Crimson Tide HC Nick Saban, accepted the Oregon job before the 2022 season. His first notable move was landing QB Bo Nix (now with the Denver Broncos) in the transfer portal. That salvaged his career.
In three seasons with the Auburn Tigers, Nix — a four-star recruit in the class of 2019 — flashed talent but was inconsistent. At the SEC school, the QB completed a below-average 59.4 percent of his passes for 7,250 yards, 39 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. During his final season at Auburn, he was benched in favor of backup QB TJ Finley. He earned the job back but suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
He transformed into one of the best QBs in college football when he arrived in Oregon. In two seasons with the Ducks, 2024 pick No. 12 Nix completed a stellar 74.9 percent of his passes for 8,101 yards, 74 TD passes and 10 picks. During the 2023 season, he posted an FBS record for completion percentage (77.4 percent) and was named a Heisman finalist.
"I thought it was time to be refreshed by another place," Nix told ESPN's "College GameDay" in November 2023. "And thank goodness Oregon was there because it was the best decision I ever could've made."
Moore, another transfer QB, went through a similar journey. He started one season for the UCLA Bruins in 2023, tossing 11 TD passes and nine interceptions in nine games. After sitting behind former Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (now with the Cleveland Browns) for one season, the five-star recruit in the class of 2023 blossomed at Oregon.
This past season, he led the Ducks to the College Football Playoff semifinal, throwing 30 TD passes and 10 interceptions in 15 games. Tankathon's latest mock draft has the New York Jets selecting him with pick No. 2.
Now imagine what Raiola, who's more developed than Nix and Moore were, could do at Oregon. In two seasons with Nebraska, he completed a solid 69.1 percent of his passes for 4,819 yards, 31 TD passes and 17 interceptions.
ESPN ranked Raiola as the No. 1 pocket passer in the class of 2024. He could finally live up to that billing in Eugene.
