John Harbaugh may be choosing between two teams

Many teams are interested in hiring John Harbaugh as head coach, but there may be just two that have a real shot at landing him.

Other coaching candidates believe that Harbaugh will land with either the New York Giants or Atlanta Falcons, according to Connor Hughes of SNY. The belief is that whichever team fails to land Harbaugh will then hire former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski.

Harbaugh is the top candidate, and the Giants are very much prioritizing him. Hughes writes that he is seen as the ideal candidate by many in the organization, particularly co-owner Steve Tisch. Harbaugh, meanwhile, appreciates the Giants’ history and the presence of quarterback Jaxson Dart, whom he has reportedly been studying.

Harbaugh and Stefanski are regarded as the two top candidates on the market, as both have had past success in the playoffs. The Falcons could be appealing because of quarterback Michael Penix Jr., plus the fact that they play in a fairly forgiving division and have an owner who is known to be supportive.

Eight teams currently have open head coach jobs, and outside of the Baltimore Ravens, all of them have shown at least some interest in hiring Harbaugh. Not all of them will get the chance to speak to him, though, and even fewer are likely in his top tier of preferred landing spots.
