In one of the most entertaining college basketball games of the 2025-26 season, the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers (12-5, 2-2 SEC) outlasted the Texas A&M Aggies (13-4, 3-1 SEC) in double overtime by a score of 87-82.
Texas A&M suffered its first SEC loss of the season in a game that lasted just shy of three hours. The Aggies led by four at halftime, but Tennessee rallied in the second half to send the game to overtime. The first five minutes of extra time yielded only another tie game, and it took 10 minutes of free basketball for the Vols to finally snag the victory.
Nate Ament made the game-sealing free throws to put UT up by four with 12 seconds to play, and a final defensive stop clinched the win. Ament, a highly touted freshman guard, led all players with 23 points, while Jacari Lane led the Aggies with 20.
The win is a big one for Tennessee, which was embarrassed on Jan. 10 in a 91-67 road loss to No. 19 Florida. The Vols looked like a completely different team on Tuesday, however, and will look to get above .500 in conference play when they host Kentucky on Jan. 17.
Texas A&M is still off to an encouraging start in SEC play, but the Aggies will have to play one of their best games of the season to take down Texas in Austin on Jan. 17 in a rivalry game that will have the Lone Star State buzzing.
