When the week began, LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin didn't know who his quarterback would be in 2026. But after Wednesday's commitment, LSU is set at the position for the foreseeable future.
Two days after landing arguably the top quarterback in the 2025 transfer portal class, former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, Kiffin landed highly-touted 2025 high-school recruit Husan Longstreet, a five-star prospect and the No. 32 overall player — one spot above LSU running back Harlem Berry — in last year's class.
As a freshman for the USC Trojans, Longstreet appeared in four games and was 13-of-15 for 103 yards while adding 11 carries for 76 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Committed to The Boot

While Leavitt, who led Arizona State to a Big 12 championship and College Football Playoff berth in 2024, is the expected starter, Longstreet could be just as valuable this season as in future years.
Leavitt is dealing with a Lisfranc injury, putting his status for spring practice in doubt. While there's no reason to be concerned about his availability for the start of the 2026 regular season, Longstreet gives LSU a high-ceiling option in case Leavitt suffers a setback, or his recovery progresses slower than anticipated.
The biggest question mark on the Tigers' roster entering this week, quarterback has become a strength in a hurry. Longstreet has all the tools to be the starter in 2027, when he'll have three years remaining of eligibility. It seems unlikely he'd have committed to LSU without some assurance he'll receive the first look at starter once Leavitt turns pro.
The latest addition is a massive win for Kiffin, giving him a raw, talented prospect who he can develop while Leavitt leads the first-team offense this coming fall.
LSU did one better than finding its 2026 quarterback this week. By landing Longstreet, the Tigers have long-term stability.
