Proving his many doubters wrong, Sam Darnold has led the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl.
Seattle's win in Sunday's NFC Championship Game sparked an outpouring of support and admiration for Darnold's success after previously being regarded as a player who couldn't win big games.
Among those showing Darnold love was Russell Wilson, who spent the 2025 season with the New York Giants and holds the distinction as the most recent quarterback to lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl. And while some may think Wilson would have reason not to root for his former team based on his dramatic departure in 2022, the former Seahawks quarterback decided to take the high road.
"Sam Darnold’s comeback story over the past two years has been one of the most inspirational things to watch! Cool seeing him overcome!!! Congrats bro. Hope you win it! Go Hawks," posted Wilson on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night.

Go Hawks
Wilson's message of congratulations and respect came after the now Darnold-led Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams, 31-27, in an all-time classic. To his credit, Darnold added to his miraculous season by stepping up in the biggest game of his career, at least to that point.
Darnold completed 25-of-36 passes for 346 yards and threw three touchdowns. He posted an impressive quarterback rating of 127.8 and even scrambled for nine more yards on the ground.
Darnold, once labeled a draft bust after a failed tenure with the New York Jets, who drafted him with the third overall pick in 2018, will now try to cap off his storybook year by delivering the Seahawks franchise its second Lombardi Trophy and first since Wilson's team won Super Bowl XLVIII.
A win in the upcoming Super Bowl LX is also an opportunity for Darnold to achieve some revenge for Seattle and correct a past wrong from the Wilson era. Darnold's team will match up with the AFC champion New England Patriots, a new era and iteration of the same organization that defeated the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX and robbed Wilson and his teammates of back-to-back titles and a second ring.
Going 1-1 in two Super Bowls, Wilson threw for 206 yards with two touchdowns in a win over the Denver Broncos and 247 yards, a pair of scores and an interception in a loss to the Patriots.
