With the focus of the week centered on whether the Milwaukee Bucks will trade Giannis Antetokounmpo, NBA fans and media have been busy speculating about possible destinations for the two-time MVP.
But at least one prominent voice in NBA media feels the team often connected to trading for Antetokounmpo shouldn't pull the trigger, and another should do everything possible to make it happen.
Two days in front of Thursday's 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins made his feelings about where Antetokounmpo should land clear when asked about the topic on ESPN's "Get Up" on Tuesday morning.
First, Perkins believes the New York Knicks, the team reported to be Antetokounmpo's preference, should stand pat with their current roster and avoid disturbing their core for any player.
"Giannis [Antetokounmpo] wants to be in New York. He wants to be a Knick. Okay? He wanted to be a Knick before the season started, that's why he quietly behind the scenes told the Bucks in August that he wanted to go to the Big Apple," opened Perkins.
But he still doesn't think New York should do what it will take to complete a trade of this magnitude.
"If I'm New York, I wouldn't touch it right now because they have one of the deepest teams in the Eastern Conference. And with this roster currently constructed, they should be able to go to the NBA Finals," Perkins continued.
"If I'm looking, the Timberwolves stand out the most to me. Because we're talking about Anthony Edwards here. We're talking about a guy who's having a career year, a guy that has been to back-to-back Western Conference Finals. You put Giannis Antetokounmpo alongside him and it's going to be hell in hot water for rest of the Western Conference," Perkins finished.

To Perkins' point, the Knicks have been playing well as of late and are in second place in the East. A trade for Antetokounmpo would mean dealing Karl-Anthony Towns and likely unloading multiple other players, not to mention future draft picks. And with the East so wide open, the Knicks can win the conference as is.
A trade for Antetokounmpo could risk shaking up the chemistry too much and actually deplete their bench, risking actually hurting the team's chances this season.
But as Perkins said, Minnesota needs to do something. It is in fifth place in the West and appears in a neutral state. Desperate to reach the franchise's first trip to the NBA Finals and not waste any of Edwards' prime, the Timberwolves are a team that could be willing to risk whatever is needed to create a super duo of their own.
With legitimate contending teams like the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs, the Denver Nuggets and even the Houston Rockets all ahead of Minnesota in the standings, it's unlikely it can get over that hump without a major addition to the roster.
We will now wait until Thursday to find out if Perkins is right or what happens in the latest chapter of Antetokounmpo's expected departure from Milwaukee.
