The Cleveland Browns have not been good for a few seasons (8-26 since 2024) and have an uncertain future, with two unproven quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, and a new head coach, Todd Monken.
With their futures being uncertain, the waters got a little muddier for the Browns' already terrible offense (30th, 262.1 yards ), with longtime tight end David Njoku announcing he won’t be returning to the team for the 2026 season and will test free agency, he announced via his Instagram on Monday.
"Cleveland, first off I love you," he wrote on Instagram. "These 9 years have been a beautiful journey. I'm am so grateful for all the memories we shared together. Thank you to The Haslams, Andrew Berry and the whole browns organization for everything!! All my teammates I shared the battle with I'm so grateful for you guys. The time for me to find a new home has come and all I can think of is just the gratefulness in my heart. The city of Cleveland will forever be home❤️ #ChiefOut."
Drafted by the Browns in the first round (29th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft, Njoku has spent all nine seasons of his NFL career in Cleveland (2017-25) and was named a Pro Bowl tight end in 2023. Njoku has tallied 4,062 yards and scored 34 touchdowns in his nine seasons in Cleveland.
A solid tight end, Njoku didn’t reach his full potential in Cleveland due to inconsistent quarterback play and injuries, playing a full season just four times. Despite this, Njoku is one of the top names on the market, joining Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert, Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts Sr. and Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce.
Teams like the Eagles and the Falcons could be potential suitors for Njoku, especially the Falcons. His former head coach, Kevin Stefanski, is calling the shots there and said he and Njoku have a "unique relationship."
"He and I have a very unique relationship," Stefanski said on 92.3 The Fan of Njoku previously. "He thinks I didn't like him when I first got here, which is not true."
