
The head-coaching carousel in men's college basketball will start to pick up steam in less than two weeks, as postseason conference tournaments conclude and teams not playing in the 2026 NCAA Tournament or the NIT will head into the offseason.
Some teams that are not participating in the postseason beyond their league tourneys could make a head-coaching change. This will provide opportunities for up-and-coming mid-major head coaches to potentially make a move to the high-major level. These five will be in high demand.
2025-26 record: 26-5 overall, 16-4 in Missouri Valley Conference
In all seven seasons leading Belmont, Alexander has won at least 20 games. He's claimed 25-plus victories in four campaigns with the Bruins. His overall record at Belmont is an impressive 166-59.
2025-26 record: 24-5 overall, 14-4 in Mountain West Conference
In his first campaign at Utah State, Calhoun led the Aggies to a 26-8 mark. In season two, Utah State is performing well again under Calhoun. The Aggies are 50-13 overall during his tenure. Between his head coaching stops at Fairmont State, Youngstown State and Utah State, Calhoun is a combined 292-156.
2025-26 record: 21-8 overall, 13-3 in American Conference
In Hodgson's first campaign as South Florida's head coach, the Bulls are in an excellent position to win at least a share of the American Conference's regular-season title. Hodgson guided Arkansas State to a 45–28 record over two seasons before becoming the Bulls head coach.
2025-26 record: 26-3 overall, 14-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference
Schertz will likely be the most popular head-coaching candidate this upcoming offseason. Saint Louis is No. 25 in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll. In 13 seasons leading Division II Lincoln Memorial, Schertz was 337-69 before going 66–40 in three seasons at Indiana State.
2025-26 record: 30-0 overall, 17-0 in Mid-American Conference
Steele had a 70–50 overall record over four seasons at Big East Conference school Xavier before getting fired. Now in Steele's fourth campaign with the RedHawks, No. 19 Miami (Ohio) won 25 games last season and is one of the feel-good stories of the 2025-26 campaign.
