Do teams think Browns could trade Myles Garrett this offseason?

Even though Cleveland Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett agreed to a four-year, $160M contract extension that included $123.5M guaranteed last offseason, he has been the subject of some renewed trade rumors since this past fall.

Recently, former NFL general manager and current analyst Mike Tannenbaum suggested that the Detroit Lions should offer the Browns two first-round draft picks and wide receiver Jameson Williams for Garrett. During a Tuesday appearance on Cleveland sports talk radio station 92.3 The Fan, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated was asked if teams are calling the Browns about Garrett's availability this offseason.

Are Browns expected to get calls on Myles Garrett before 2026 NFL Draft?

"Sure," Breer responded. "I don't know how far it'll go. ...I view it as, they should listen, at least."

Breer noted that a Browns team that is coming off a 5-12 season, has a new head coach (Todd Monken) and is once again searching for an answer at quarterback seems to be in the early days of its latest "long-range rebuild." Thus, one would think Cleveland won't be in a position to compete for more than a playoff berth while Garrett, 30, is still in his physical prime.

To compare, the Las Vegas Raiders reportedly want two first-round draft picks and a starting player in return for pass-rusher Maxx Crosby. While Crosby is 28, Garrett officially became a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award winner in February after he set a new official single-season record of 23 sacks this past campaign.

Garrett's deal is reportedly tradable as it pertains to the salary cap, and at least nine teams theoretically could be interested in trading for him. Breer thinks Browns general manager Andrew Berry should listen to what any team that calls about Garrett's status has to say.

Browns need to think about a future beyond Myles Garrett

"I would look at where they are right now as sort of being in more of a position to plan this out long-term," Breer added during the segment about the Browns possibly trading Garrett.

Garrett requested a trade in February 2025 due to his unhappiness with the state of the Browns, and it's assumed he's not thrilled that player-favorite defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is no longer with the organization. Perhaps agreeing to a divorce before the 2026 NFL Draft gets underway on April 23 would ultimately benefit both the Browns and Garrett.
