Clara Strack's historic SEC Tournament second-round performance against No. 22 Georgia highlights No. 17 Kentucky's potential

The 17th-ranked Kentucky women opened SEC Tournament play on Wednesday with a 94-64 rout of 16-seed Arkansas, recording their largest margin of victory in a conference tournament game.

On Thursday, more history was made in a 76-61 second-round win over eight-seed and Associated Press No. 22 Georgia, punching their ticket to Friday's quarterfinal game against top-seed South Carolina (noon ET, ESPN). Only this time, the history was centered around the sensational play from one of their star players instead of the overall outcome of the game.

Junior center Clara Strack went off for 33 points (12-of-22 FG, 5-of-7 3PT), eight rebounds and three blocks. The 33 points tied a career-high for Strack.

Clara Strack has all-time performance against Georgia

According to ESPN Insights, Strack is the first player this century with 30 points, five threes and three blocks in a women's regulation conference tournament game.

This was Strack's third consecutive game with at least 20 points, which marks the first time she has accomplished that in her career. Strack has simply been a force on both ends of the floor with 14 double-doubles this season and team-highs in points (16.7 PPG), rebounds (10.3 RPG), steals (1.2 SPG) and blocks (2.6 BPG).

Despite trailing 36-35 at the break, Kentucky outscored Georgia, 41-25, in the second half to avenge a Jan. 24 loss to the Bulldogs in a game that was rescheduled due to Winter Storm Fern.

The Wildcats shot 50% as a team (28-of-56), won the rebounding advantage, 35-26, and only committed eight turnovers, which is a huge improvement for a team that has struggled taking care of the ball this season.

One game after Strack (20 points, 13 rebounds), senior guard Tonie Morgan (14 points, 10 assists) and senior guard Jordan Obi (14 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles against Arkansas, more balanced production was on the way Thursday with senior forward Teonni Key (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Morgan (14 points, seven assists) contributing to Strack's heroics.

Kentucky (23-9, 8-8 SEC) was projected to be a five-seed in Charlie Creme's latest bracketology for ESPN, but a four-seed is likely not out of the question if it has a great rest of the week in the SEC Tournament.

The Wildcats started the season 15-1 before going 8-8 in their last 16 games. Regardless of how the SEC Tournament plays out, this Kentucky team has a lot of potential and is the last team most programs will want to face in the NCAA Tournament, especially if Strack is able to take over a game and leave her mark on both ends of the floor.
