At some point, you have to stop calling it a hot streak.
Luka Doncic has been absolutely unstoppable in Los Angeles, and it showed Thursday night. Doncic put up 60 points against the Miami Heat in stunning fashion. In the second half alone, he put up 39 points. Thursday night's victory over the Heat gave the Lakers their eighth straight win as they continue to stake their claim as one of the best teams in the Western Conference.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson felt compelled to praise Doncic on social media after the game.
"Luka Doncic is the most unguardable player in the NBA! He scored a season high 60 points in tonight’s win against the Miami Heat. Luka has to be one of the top 2 or 3 players being considered in the MVP race.
LeBron James is also playing out of his mind! He recorded a 19 point, 15 rebound and 10 assist triple double and led the Lakers to a 134-126 win."
Johnson was not the only one who commented on Doncic's impressive feat as analysts Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe both took to X (formerly Twitter).
Bayless said: "BAM: Luka goes for 60 on road back to back in Mr. 83's House, in Miami, more than doubling Bam's 28. Lakers win 10th of 11. Fans in Miami chant MVP.'"
Sharpe commented not only on Doncic, but on LeBron James' performance as well.
"Luka with a 60 piece and Bron with a Trip Dub on the 2nd of a bck2bck. Lakers have now beaten Knicks, Nuggets, Twolves, Rockets(2) Heat as part of 8gm win streak. Ppl will say those tms aren’t any good in an attempt 2 discredit the Lakers."
Right now, Doncic is just cooking. There’s no other way to say it.
He is making everything look easy, and the Lakers look like a different team. They're not perfect, but they appear comfortable. It seems like they know if things get tight, they’ve got the guy who can take over without forcing it.
Now throw LeBron into that equation. That’s where it gets interesting.
If both Doncic and James carry this momentum into the playoffs, you’re not talking about a team that’s just playing well at the right time. You’re talking about a team that nobody will want to play at all.
If the two of the can keep this pace up, they may be chasing a ring come June.
