Jason Kidd wants Cooper Flagg to do just one thing after rookie season

To say that the Dallas Mavericks' season was a disappointment would be a bit of an understatement.

Some expected them to be a dark horse to come out of the Western Conference, but Anthony Davis' injury and subsequent trade changed everything.

Nevertheless, most Mavs fans were still satisfied after watching what Cooper Flagg can do and the type of player he can become.

That's why, after all the rookie season frenzy and what he's put his body through since his non-stop hooping days at Duke, Jason Kidd has one big piece of advice for his franchise player: Get some rest.

Jason Kidd wants Cooper Flagg to get some rest

“First thing would be rest,” Kidd said (h/t Noah Weber). “Just understanding the expectations and everything that was coming out of the draft, Summer League. Just giving a 19-year-old a little time to have some R&R. Play a little golf…He’s gotta give his mind and body some rest here because next year will be a lot longer.”

Flagg went from leading the Blue Devils in all major stats and making a deep tournament run almost straight to the Summer League. Then, he suited up for 70 of 82 games as a rookie.

The reigning No. 1 pick made a compelling case for the Rookie of the Year award, giving fellow Duke star Kon Knueppel a run for his money with averages of 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.9 blocks per game on 46.8 percent from the floor, per Basketball Reference.

He also became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 50 points in a game.

He might be just 19, but even youngsters need to get some rest and restore their bodies. If he continues to get better, he might not lose 50+ games in a season ever again in his career.
