Taylor Gray held off a hard-charging Sheldon Creed in the final laps of Saturday's Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway, holding on to claim his second career win in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series.
It was Gray's Joe Gibbs Racing teammate in Brandon Jones, who dominated the race and swept the stages, but a pit road penalty during the final round of green flag pit stops ended up relegating Jones to an eighth-place finish.
That left Gray and Creed to battle it out for the win, and while Creed closed on Gray in the closing laps, he was unable to get close enough to make a move.
"I thought the 20 was better than us before the green flag cycle," Gray told CW Sports. "Can't thank everybody enough. It's been a long start to the year. Things haven't really gone our way. It's nice to finally be able to close one out."
Creed, points leader Justin Allgaier, Jesse Love and Brent Crews rounded out the top five, with William Byron, Cole Custer, Jones, Sam Mayer and Ryan Sieg completing the top 10.
Other notable finishers include Corey Day in 12th, Sammy Smith in 16th, William Sawalich in 20th, Rajah Caruth in 21st and Austin Hill in 34th. Carson Kvapil finished last (37th) after flipping early in the race.
Allgaier has a 130-point lead over Creed at the top of the standings, with Gray holding the 12th and final provisional Chase spot by 28 points over Sieg.
