The Minnesota Timberwolves took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night with a 112-96 win. It is their third consecutive win in the series, and the second in a row by more than 15 points. All of that is good news for the Timberwolves, and a pretty big statement that they can compete in the Western Conference.
The bad news is Saturday's win came with a major price as two key starters suffered major injuries and exited the game.
The injuries started in the first two minutes of the game when starting guard Donte DiVencenzo went down with what has turned out to be a torn Achilles. That will not only take him out of the remainder of the series, but the remainder of the playoffs for the Timberwolves as well.
Then, just before halftime, Anthony Edwards went down with a knee injury that took him out of the game. He is undergoing further testing to determine the severity.
And Anthony Edwards is set to undergo tests on his injured left knee. He had been playing through runner's knee in his other knee. The Timberwolves starting guards sustain injuries in the first half tonight in Game 4 against Denver. https://t.co/ipDf2LPRLS

In their absences, the Timberwolves bench stepped up in a massive way with Ayo Dosunmu playing the game of his life with 43 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the floor. He was also a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Minnesota was able to get through the second half of this game without its starting backcourt. The problem is going to be if Edwards has to miss more time. They already know DiVencenzo will not be back this season, and if Edwards has to miss any games, that could make winning even one more game in this series a challenge.
They are in a good position in terms of where the series sits in terms of wins. They really need Edwards to be okay if they are going to advance and have a chance to go on a deep playoff run.
