The Cleveland Guardians have been looking for help in the lineup for years. A part of the solution may be on the way to the majors.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the Guardians are set to promote top prospect Travis Bazzana to the major league roster. He will presumably take over as the Guardians' starting second baseman upon his arrival.
A consensus top-100 prospect in 2025 and 2026, Bazzana was considered the 20th-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com heading into the season. He has been lauded for his solid all-around game and is considered to have a plus hit tool, excellent speed and a strong eye at the plate. Although he does not have immense power, he is still capable of damage to his pull side and has a strong gap to gap approach.
Bazzana had a solid showing at Triple-A to begin his 2026 season, posting a .287/.442/.511 batting line with 11 doubles and a pair of homers while stealing eight bases over his 117 plate appearances. As Guardians second basemen had combined for a .202/.312/.330 batting line two homers and six doubles in 110 plate appearances entering Monday, Bazzana could be an immediate upgrade.
He may not be the only prospect to head to Cleveland in the near future. Catching prospect Cooper Ingle has been on fire in Columbus, posting a .394/.630/.788 batting line with four homers in 54 plate appearances, drawing 20 walks with nine strikeouts. He is on the minor league IL due to right hip inflammation, but may not have long to wait once he is healthy. Outfielder Khalil Watson and infielder Milan Tolentino are off to solid starts at Triple-A and could get a look in the majors as well.
The Guardians have been looking for players to help third baseman Jose Ramirez and outfielder Steven Kwan in the lineup. Travis Bazzana may be part of the answer.
