It is an offseason of change for the Miami Dolphins, and that has included a significant teardown and overhaul of the team's roster. But the one player who has remained through all of it is running back De'Von Achane, and it appears he is going to be there for quite some time.
The Dolphins reportedly signed Achane to a four-year, $68 million extension on Wednesday that includes $32 million in guarantees.
The $17 million per year average salary makes him the third-highest paid running back in the NFL.
The Dolphins have spent the offseason gutting the major parts of their offense, replacing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with Malik Willis, releasing wide receiver Tyreek Hill and trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
All of those changes and the start of another massive rebuild resulted in speculation that Achane could be the next player out the door.
The Dolphins, however, have remained committed to keeping Achane on their roster and doubled down on that commitment with this contract extension.
BREAKING: The #Dolphins and Pro Bowl RB De'Von Achane have agreed to a 4-year extension worth $68M, making him the NFL’s 3rd-highest-paid RB at $17M per year with $32M guaranteed, per multiple sources.

Achane is one of the most impactful, big-play running backs in the NFL and is coming off a career year that saw him rush for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns. For his career, he has rushed for 3,057 yards in three seasons, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He led the league with a 5.7 yard-per-carry average this past season.
The question will now become how effective he can be in an offense where he is going to be the clear focal point. Running back production can be largely team-dependent and require a good offensive line and effective passing game to open things up for them. The Dolphins offense is clearly going to run through him, and he will be the focal point for every opposing defense they play.
