Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Rashee Rice won't be available for the first stretch of his team's offseason workouts.
After some well-documented issues off the field, the SMU product is once again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
According to Matt Foster of Kansas City's KSHB 41 News, Rice violated his probation after testing positive for marijuana.
As such, he'll have to serve time and will ultimately have to miss the first stretch of his team's offseason preparation.
"Breaking: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice violated his probation after testing positive for marijuana," Foster shared on X. "Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail, meaning he will miss Chiefs OTAs & Mandatory Mini-Camp."
Rice has found himself in the news for the wrong reasons far too often in his young career. He faced significant charges stemming from a March 2024 car accident, ultimately pleading guilty to two felony charges. The incident prompted a six-game suspension from the NFL.
While he may not face a suspension for his latest transgression, it should raise even more concerns about his character. It's the last thing the Chiefs need as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season, and it won't help Rice as he enters a contract year.
Rice has been either suspended or hurt for most of his young career. He missed the majority of the 2024 season after suffering a knee injury in Week 4 of that season.
Barring a last-second move, he's expected to be the Chiefs' primary pass catcher in 2026. Whether that will still be in the cards after yet another avoidable incident remains to be seen.
