Todd Monken shares alarming Myles Garrett update as trade rumors persist

In April, first-year Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken raised some eyebrows when he revealed that he had not yet spoken in person with star pass-rusher Myles Garrett.

Understandably, Monken was asked while speaking with reporters on Wednesday if he had had any face-to-face interactions with Garrett over the past month or so.

Todd Monken still hasn't spent time with Myles Garrett?

“Myles? No," Monken responded, per the Browns' website.

Garrett has been spotted in Cleveland, specifically at Cleveland Cavaliers games, since the Browns hired Monken this past winter. Thus, some local media members have noted that it is odd that Garrett hasn't at least popped into the team facility to say a quick "hello" to his new head coach.

Monken offered his latest update shortly after a new report suggested that NFL executives think Garrett has "some remorse" regarding the four-year, $160M extension he signed to stay with the Browns last offseason. Meanwhile, reporters have speculated that Cleveland could accept a so-called "'Godfather' offer" for Garrett at some point between June 1 and this fall's trade deadline.

Mason Graham not losing sleep about Myles Garrett's whereabouts ahead of Memorial Day

Also on Wednesday, second-year Browns defensive tackle Mason Graham was asked about Garrett as trade rumors continue to hover over the club.

"He’s the best player in the NFL, so I am not taking anything away from him," Graham said about Garrett, according to Sean Deveney of Heavy. "Him not showing up, I know he has got his own life. He’s just a different individual, but I know, come time on Sunday, he is going to be ready to work."

Unlike what happened shortly after the 2024 season wrapped up, Garrett has not publicly announced or even hinted that he wants to be traded this offseason. That said, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year may be looking for another pay raise after Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans received a three-year, $150M extension that included $134M guaranteed and a no-trade clause earlier this spring.

Until Garrett fields questions from reporters, outsiders will be left guessing about why he seemingly hasn't been all that interested in spending time with Monken.
