Whether or not the Las Vegas Raiders could take trade calls regarding star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby after the Baltimore Ravens backed out of acquiring him earlier this offseason is a topic that has hovered over the Raiders for months.
Crosby remains with the team heading into late May. For a piece published on Thursday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US shared bad news for fans of teams that could use a player such as Crosby this spring.
According to La Canfora, "multiple general managers over the last few weeks have said that in their minds, Crosby is going to be a Raider in 2026."
"He’s going to start the season there, and he’ll probably play his a— off," one general manager said about Crosby while speaking with La Canfora. "[The Raiders] might get some calls (before the trade deadline), but I don’t think he’s getting moved now. I kind of think that ship has sailed."
Crosby reportedly requested a trade after he was shut down by the Raiders for the remainder of the 2025 season against his wishes in late December because of a lingering knee injury. However, it has more recently been said that Crosby, Raiders general manager John Spytek and first-year head coach Klint Kubiak are now on the same page.
On Wednesday, Kubiak revealed that the Raiders are "counting on" Crosby being good to go for training-camp practices coming off the meniscus repair the 28-year-old underwent this past winter. Kubiak added at that time that the Raiders are also counting on Crosby "to be a leader."
"Crosby is working out on his own and not taking part in Las Vegas’s offseason practices," La Canfora wrote, "but league sources said he continues to throw himself into his recovery and make significant strides. Crosby has told friends around the league he is as fired up as ever to have a monster season in the public fallout of the Ravens bailing on an agreed-upon trade, and he was never going to be fully cleared for football activities in time for the start of May organized team activity practices."
The trade saga involving the Raiders and the Ravens could ultimately prove to be a blessing in disguise for Kubiak if the Las Vegas defense benefits from having an angry Crosby in the lineup from September through January 2027.
