Buffalo Bills general manager/president of football operations Brandon Beane and first-year Bills head coach Joe Brady have insisted throughout the offseason that they are not yet giving up on wide receiver Keon Coleman.
Nevertheless, Coleman has remained the subject of some trade rumors after Bills owner Terry Pegula said this past January that former head coach Sean McDermott "pushed" for Buffalo to select Coleman with the 33rd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. In an update shared on Wednesday, ESPN Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg suggested that Buffalo would reject any realistic offers for Coleman's services this summer.
"Coleman has said he understands what is on the line this season," Getzenberg explained, "and the Bills are currently committed to giving him this chance. Whether it can all come together in Buffalo, however, is still a big question."
Getzenberg was referencing how Coleman acknowledged last week that he is likely heading into a "make or break" season regarding his Bills tenure after he was disciplined, benched and made a healthy scratch multiple times over his first two NFL campaigns due to reported "maturity issues." Across 26 total regular-season games, Coleman recorded 67 receptions for 960 yards and eight touchdowns.
Coleman reportedly never requested a trade following Pegula's controversial comments. Additionally, it's likely that his value as a tradable asset is quite low. Thus, the win-now Bills likely feel that selling Coleman for pennies on the dollar before the preseason gets underway makes little sense as long as he continues to cause no problems behind the scenes amid springtime workouts.
"Any hint of a trade has been shut down by Beane, as he said the team intends for Coleman to remain in Buffalo and that the Bills have rebuffed any teams reaching out with interest," Getzenberg added. "If something dramatically shifted, a post-June 1 trade would create $1.7M in cap space and under $2.2M in 2027."
Barring a surprise development, it sounds like no such trade will develop before the Bills see how Coleman plays and behaves later this year. Buffalo's regular season gets underway with a matchup at the Houston Texans on Sept. 13.
