Three potential trade candidates for Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are in a familiar spot as the 2026 calendar is ready to flip to June.

Once again, the Rockies have one of the worst records in baseball and should be sellers at the trade deadline. However, after the Rockies front office remembered that the MLB trade deadline exists last year, they could be an active team on the trade front. A new front office, led by general manager Josh Byrnes and president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta, has changed the culture around the franchise.

The Rockies have finally embraced the rebuilding process and are beginning the slow process of attempting to build a contending roster. The Rockies also have a more talented roster than in the recent past, making them a team to watch in the coming months.

Three players the Colorado Rockies could trade before the deadline

Relief pitcher Antonio Senzatela

Senzatela had been a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter before signing a five-year, $50.5 million extension ahead of the 2022 season. He struggled through four mediocre and injury-plagued seasons immediately afterward, posting a 5.98 ERA and a 1.762 WHiP over 242.1 innings between 2022 and 2025.

A move to the bullpen for the 2026 season may have changed the trajectory of his career. He has posted a 1.36 ERA and a 0.848 WHiP over 33 innings entering Friday, striking out 26 batters with nine walks. Senzatela has become one of the more coveted relievers on the trade market, with the Braves and Yankees reportedly interested in his services.

Starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano

It is rare for a pitcher to thrive as a member of the Rockies, but that has not been the case for Sugano. While he is not the ace-caliber pitcher he was during his time in Nippon Professional Baseball, he has been a solid option for the Rockies, posting a 4.01 ERA and a 1.251 WHiP over his 58.1 innings.

There are a few red flags with Sugano. He has allowed 11 homers this season after allowing an AL-leading 33 home runs in 2025. He has only struck out 31 batters and his .251 batting average on balls in play against is not sustainable. However, he could be a respectable back-of-the-rotation arm for a team looking for a veteran presence as a fifth starter.

Outfielder Mickey Moniak

The former first overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, Moniak was viewed as a bust heading into the 2026 season. He has responded with the best season of his career, posting a .280/.335/.607 batting line with 12 homers and nine doubles in his 164 plate appearances.

There are red flags with Moniak as well. He has been far more productive at home than on the road, with a .301 difference in OPS. Moniak is also currently on the Injured List with right ankle tendinitis, although he is not expected to miss much time. Despite those concerns, Moniak could still be valuable to a contending team as a power-hitting platoon outfielder as he has experience at all three outfield spots.
