The Cleveland Browns have finally done the unthinkable. They traded Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, boosting Sean McVay's team's already high Super Bowl odds.
Todd Monken's team got a suitable young replacement in Jared Verse, an Ohio native with sky-high potential. However, the Browns can't afford to roll into next season without a proven veteran headhunter. As such, they may have no choice but to break the bank to go all-in on Cameron Jordan.
Jordan remains unsigned, and it's hard to believe he'd be interested in joining a Browns team that may not allow him to win a Super Bowl. Considering that, the Browns may have to overpay for his services, with Spotrac projecting his market value at $6.8 million per year. Perhaps adding more cash to bring it to $10 million, or adding incentives, could sweeten that proposal.
Of course, Jordan won't be a long-term solution, but he can be a solid stopgap and mentor for Verse. The New Orleans Saints' all-time leader in sacks recorded 10.5 in his age-36 season, so he can clearly still make a big impact if the Browns manage his reps.
The Browns already have a strong tandem in Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire, but adding a future first-ballot Hall of Famer to the mix, even at this point in his career, can certainly help mitigate Garrett's departure at least for next season.
Jordan might not have that many suitors at this point, which is the only thing that could work in the Browns' favor in this potential pursuit. However, with a clear need for another headhunter and not many strong options up for grabs, the Browns might have no choice but to pick up the phone and get him in the building.
