Sometimes it's the little things that matter on the recruiting trail, because the little things add up day-by-day.
That was true in the recruitment of Frederick Ards III, a four-star EDGE out of Orlando, Florida.
Ards is one of the top EDGE recruits in the 2027 cycle, and he basically could have decided to play college ball anywhere. More than 20 schools have offered him.
His recruitment came down to the Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators, though.
He visited College Station as part of a big group of recruits taking official visits this past weekend, and one of the things that stood out to him was the food. Other things made sense about Texas A&M, of course, but one gets the sense that Mike Elko and his staff need to send a tip to the culinary department for this one.
“The experience I had was great,” Ards told Aggie Yell after his visit. “Loved the environment, the coaching staff, the players. Everything. The food, the food was fire. Everything was great.”
Ards committed to Texas A&M on Tuesday.

This is a big commitment for Texas A&M.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Ards is the No. 9 EDGE in the 2027 class. In 15 games for Jones High School this past fall, he put up 80 tackles (13 tackles for loss), 11 sacks and one forced fumble.
"We think his game will take another leap this fall," wrote Rivals recruiting analyst Greg Biggins of Ards.
He's a bit lean for an EDGE at nearly 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, but all the experts see the potential in Ards. Clearly, Texas A&M did, too.
"Must keep progressing and embrace the weight room, but should be viewed as a high-octane rusher that could push for minutes early in sub-packages at the Power Four level," wrote 247Sports of the newest Aggie.
We'll have to wait and see if he really does embrace the weight room, but we know the four-star already loves the grub in College Station.
