Steelers urged to make QB change after Aaron Rodgers move

The Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers are back together for another season, and excitement is high in the Terrible Towel camp. But the Steelers have a jam-packed quarterback room, so that's something the team has to consider going into the 2026 season.

Now that Rodgers is back, the Steelers quarterback room includes Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar and Will Howard. One of these quarterbacks will likely be traded to a team in need of signal-caller depth before the first snap in September.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report named one player from each team who should be traded this summer in a recent feature. For the Steelers, that player is a quarterback.

The Steelers could trade quarterback Mason Rudolph before the 2026 season

Moton makes the case that the Steelers are most likely to trade Rudolph.

"According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, the Steelers are working on rewiring Allar's quarterback tendencies," Moton notes in the piece. "Also, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer believes Howard will get the "first crack" at the primary backup job.

"So it makes sense that he's the No. 2 signal-caller on the depth chart while Allar works on the basics. Rudolph is the odd man out, though he should have a trade market with 19 career starts on his resume."

This all points to Rudolph being the most likely to get traded. Will it happen? We'll know soon enough, but a big reason it could be Rudolph is that he has some solid draft capital. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in real time.
