The Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams sent shockwaves through the league with one of the biggest trades in recent NFL history.
Myles Garrett will join Sean McVay's team, with the Browns getting Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-rounder and a 2029 conditional third-rounder.
Unsurprisingly, the Rams weren't the only team trying to get the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, though they were the only ones willing to give up a premium player to sweeten the deal.
According to Jeff Kerr of SI.com, the Philadelphia Eagles were also in the race, but they refused to include Jalen Carter in the trade.
"The Eagles had a premium player like Verse that was initially discussed in trade conversations, but they balked," Kerr wrote. "That player? Jalen Carter.
Eagles GM Howie Roseman tried low-balling the Browns, offering lesser players like Nolan Smith or Jalyx Hunt instead. Of course, that was a non-starter for Andrew Berry and the Browns.
"Having Carter as the centerpiece in a Garrett trade was too rich for the Eagles' blood," Kerr continued. "The Eagles were reluctant to part ways with a premium player that is critical for their future, even if they could have landed Garrett -- a player they coveted."
This decision might come back to haunt the Eagles. While Carter's talent and physical tools are undeniable, he also has some major character concerns, and he hasn't gotten a contract extension yet.
Even if that weren't the case, Carter is a very, very good player, but he's not Myles Garrett good.
The Rams are going all-in. They don't only want to host the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium; they want to play in it.
Sean McVay landed two prime defensive players in Trent McDuffie and Myles Garrett in the same offseason, knowing that it'll be his best shot to dethrone the Seattle Seahawks, not only in the NFC West but also as the team to beat in pro football.
